| We are working on a way for multiple-firm owners to access their individual firms' information via a link on the "Welcome" page, no matter which number is used to logon. More than likely it will be a link that looks much like the Web bookmarks in the purple shaded section of the main page, or a "dropdown" function. Updates are forthcoming as progress on this feature is made. AGENTS already have a dropdown designed, but because of work on the commission advance system, we are not yet prepared to release the feature. General agents will, for the time being, need to log on using individual sub-agent numbers in order to view individual production and endangered information.

I am seeing several errors after logging on to the Site. I can get on, but certain pages give me errors or my browser crashes. What gives?
Most likely, it is a problem with the Web browser. Our site transmits encrypted data. Many older browser versions do not support 128-bit encryption. Netscape (any version) seems to cause some problems, although our testing shows it is intermittent. On AOL, some screens look strange, but the functionality is there. By far, Microsoft Internet Explorer v. 4.5 or higher works the most consistent. Fortunately it is a FREE download from Microsoft's Web site.

Make sure you clicked "Funeral Home" or Agent". If you are certain you are using the correct security codes and selecting the corresponding button, think about updating the browser, or changing from Netscape to Internet Explorer.

Why do I keep crashing?
Many times users have several applications open at once (i.e. Word, Internet Explorer, accounting software, email program). After a day of switching repeatedly between programs, the "Temporary Internet Files" and "Temp" folders under the "Windows" folder get pretty full. If there's not much memory or hard disk space on the computer, working will be a nightmare. Pages will load slowly, at best. Ultimately, the system will freeze or crash. Partway through the day it is a good idea to close all of your applications and log on. If the machine's still running slow, close down the browser disconnect from the Internet, and restart the computer.

How often are the reports updated?
Reports are updated with the same frequency as our "paper" reports, with the exception of the PartnerPoints statement, which is updated on the Web monthly (as opposed to the quarterly paper reports).

I am working with an agent who cannot get a PIN. What's the deal?
Agents need to go through the same process as funeral homes to "Get PIN." If an agent receives a message saying "NO RECORD FOUND, PLEASE CHECK USER ID/SSN COMBINATION", it is likely that they are not entering information that matches what is in our system. If the agent has signed with Homesteaders since 1/31/01, they may not yet be in the system due to our work on the commission advance system. The next conversion will be at the end of April, at which time the newest agents will be able to get their PIN online. In either case, a call must be made to Customer Service: 1-800-436-6110.

I get a message about "scripts" not being able to be run. What's this?
"Scripts" are a type of programming that give the Web site functionality, such as when you mouse over an image and it changes color, or a dropdown appears under a navigation bar. Certain browsers or early versions of browsers cannot interpret scripts. The best thing to do is go the Web site for the creator of your browser and see if there is a new version. Remember, MyHomesteaders.com was designed to give the ultimate in functionality and security. It's best when viewed with the latest Web browsers available.

I know I am connected at 56K. But the pages are loading slowly. What's the problem?
You might be transmitting at 56K, but many phone systems can only send back information ("throughput") at 28.8 or a little higher. Unless you are using a cable modem or DSL (direct server link), or on a network with a large "pipeline," you may experience some delay in the initial page loads (especially in rural areas). HOWEVER, MyHomesteaders.com is normally pretty quick to load, even at speeds well under 56K. Check to see how many applications you have open (accounting software, drawing programs, word processing programs, etc.). Close some of them, then reconnect to the Internet and see what happens. If you're still running slowly, close everything down and restart the machine. This clears some of the temporary files that have accumulated through the day and which use resources that may affect the speed of your machine.
